Known for their catalytic projects and innovative approaches to rehab and reuse developments, these two developers will share their experience with COVID-19, how it has impacted their current work, and how they are adjusting their approach to future projects.
About the Speakers
Dave McCormack
Through his work, Dave has recognized the nearly universal struggles of small-town America of identity, population, and economic development — and he is inspired to lead the charge of transformation. To initiate change, Dave created Waukeshaw Development, a successful real estate group in Old Towne Petersburg. Dave works with communities across Virginia and North Carolina to revitalize forgotten treasures. In doing so, he has launched two brewery brands, a popular coffee destination, and hundreds of apartments throughout the Commonwealth.
Waukeshaw achieves its goals by attracting traditional bank financing as well as seeking grants and other incentives. The group also works with an expert team of architects, CPAs, legal professionals, and consultants to syndicate state and federal historic tax credits.
Ed Walker
Ed Walker is a community-oriented real estate developer who has founded a number of non-profit and for-profit organizations. His work typically seeks to strengthen communities through social entrepreneurship and the exploration of how communities collaboratively create the conditions necessary for positive transformation. His work is currently focused in Roanoke, Salem, Buena Vista, and Danville.
Ed attended the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the Washington & Lee University School of Law. He served as a Loeb Fellow at Harvard and as the Gleitsman Visiting Practitioner at Harvard’s Center for Public Leadership. In addition to his other projects, he teaches at Washington & Lee’s School of Law.

The Governor’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the Office of Health Equity at the Virginia Department of Health are co-sponsoring this virtual event with VCU Massey Cancer Center in collaboration with faith leaders from the “Facts & Faith Friday '' group. Facts & Faith Friday's began in March 2020 as a weekly call led by Robert Winn, M.D., director of VCU Massey Cancer Center, with African American clergy in Virginia to address the disparate impact of COVID-19 on the Black community. The call has evolved to address high rates of cancer and other health issues in diverse communities. With the exciting opportunity to hear from Dr. Anthony Fauci, the Facts & Faith group has extended the event to all Virginians and belief systems because of their deep commitment to the One-Virginia mission and service to all people. Therefore, we are pleased to invite the interfaith community and the residents served by the Commonwealth's most essential community leaders to register below to participate in a virtual webinar with Dr. Fauci and learn from the nation's top doctor about the COVID-19 vaccine.
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a drastic increase in household food insecurity in the United States. As vulnerable children and families have faced new obstacles in accessing consistent, healthy meals, counties have played a critical role in providing food and nutrition assistance in cooperation with community stakeholders and our partners in state and federal government. Bolstering these efforts, the latest COVID-19 relief package provides significant new resources and flexibilities for federal nutrition programs. During this Webinar Congressional staff, county leaders, and national experts will discuss how emergency COVID-19 legislation can help counties combat food insecurity and the implications it may have for national anti-hunger policy moving forward.
